How to Hold Physical Gold in an IRA

Alright, let’s talk about gold—because let’s be honest, paper money feels about as reliable as a weather forecast from a groundhog. If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve heard whispers of the legendary “Gold IRA,” and you’re wondering if it’s just another overhyped financial gimmick or a legit way to protect your wealth.

Well, my friend, I’ve been down this road. And let me tell you—it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Picture me, sitting in my home office, sipping black coffee (because real investors don’t do oat milk lattes), staring at my portfolio like it owed me an explanation. Stocks were swinging harder than a heavyweight boxer, and my faith in the U.S. dollar? Let’s just say it was hanging by a thread.

I knew I needed a hedge. Something tangible. Something the government couldn’t just print into oblivion. That’s when I went down the rabbit hole reading everything I could on the website Gold Is Money 2 about holding physical gold in an IRA. And after some trial, error, and a few phone calls with people who sounded like they’d rather be doing anything else, I finally figured out how to do it right.

So, grab a coffee (or something stronger), and let’s break it down.

Step 1: Understanding What a Gold IRA Really Is

First off, a Gold IRA isn’t just a regular IRA where you can throw in some coins and call it a day. The IRS (bless their hearts) has rules. A Gold IRA is a self-directed IRA that allows you to hold physical precious metals instead of the usual stocks and bonds.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: Why not just buy gold and stash it in my basement? Well, unless you enjoy the idea of armed men breaking into your home in search of shiny things, an IRA is the safer (and more tax-advantaged) way to go.

The catch? You can’t just go to your local pawn shop and dump some gold into your IRA. The IRS has very specific guidelines on what kind of gold you can hold, and it must be stored in an approved depository.

Step 2: Choosing the Right Custodian

You can’t open a Gold IRA with just any brokerage account. No, sir. You need a self-directed IRA custodian—which sounds fancy, but really, they’re just the gatekeepers making sure you follow Uncle Sam’s rules.

I made the rookie mistake of assuming my regular IRA provider would handle gold. Big nope. After about 47 minutes on hold, I learned that most traditional firms don’t offer self-directed IRAs. So, I had to do my homework.

Here’s what I looked for when choosing a custodian:

Reputation & Reviews – If people are out here calling them a scam, run. ✅ Storage Options – More on this later, but some custodians lock you into specific depositories. ✅ Fees – Some charge you for breathing. Find one that’s upfront about their costs. ✅ Customer Service – If I’m trusting them with my gold, I need a human who answers the phone.

After sifting through more fine print than a lawyer on Red Bull, I finally found a custodian I trusted.

Step 3: Buying the Right Kind of Gold

If you’re imagining walking into a gold shop and walking out with a sack of coins like an old-school prospector—think again. The IRS only allows certain types of gold in an IRA, and no, your grandma’s old jewelry doesn’t count.

Here’s what does:

Gold bars and coins that meet purity standards (at least 99.5% pure)IRS-approved options like American Gold Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, and PAMP Suisse barsNo collectibles, rare coins, or anything that looks like it belongs in a pirate movie

Once I had my gold picked out, my custodian helped facilitate the purchase through an approved dealer. No sketchy back-alley transactions required.

Step 4: Storing It Like a Pro

And now, the part where I realized I couldn’t just bury my gold in the backyard and call it a day. The IRS says your gold must be held in an approved depository.

The good news? These places are Fort Knox-level secure. The bad news? You don’t get to physically hold your gold. (Cue sad violin music.)

Some of the top depositories include:

🏛 Delaware Depository 🏛 Brinks Global Services 🏛 Texas Precious Metals Depository

Each has its own fees, security measures, and storage policies. I went with one that offered segregated storage—meaning my gold stayed separate from everyone else’s, instead of being thrown into a communal pile.

Step 5: Managing & Withdrawing Your Gold

So, what happens when you want to cash out? Well, you’ve got options.

1️⃣ Sell the gold within your IRA – Your custodian helps you sell it and deposits the cash in your account. 2️⃣ Take a distribution in physical gold – But beware—this triggers taxes, and if you’re under 59½, say hello to penalties.

I personally like the idea of keeping my gold tucked away until I need it, but hey—your money, your rules.

Final Thoughts: Is It Worth It?

Look, I won’t sugarcoat it—holding physical gold in an IRA is more complex than just buying some stocks and calling it a day. But if you’re serious about protecting your wealth from inflation, economic downturns, and whatever fresh chaos the world decides to throw our way next, it’s one of the smartest moves you can make.

Would I do it again? Absolutely. Would I do it sooner if I could go back? Without a doubt.

So if you’ve been on the fence, take it from me—do your research, pick a solid custodian, and get your gold working for you. Future you will thank you.

Key Takeaways

  • A Gold IRA lets you hold physical gold in a tax-advantaged retirement account.
  • You need a self-directed IRA custodian to handle transactions and storage.
  • The IRS has strict rules on what gold you can buy—no collectibles or jewelry.
  • Gold must be stored in an approved depository (not your basement!).
  • When withdrawing, you can sell for cash or take possession of the gold (with tax implications).

So, are you ready to go for the gold? (Yeah, I had to.)

The company offers both physical precious metals and precious metal-backed Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), catering to a range of investors, from beginners to experienced wealth managers.

Services Offered

Rosland Capital provides a variety of products and services related to the purchase, sale, and storage of precious metals. Below are the key services the company offers:

  1. Gold and Silver Coins and Bars
Rosland offers an extensive collection of gold and silver coins and bars. Investors can choose from American Gold Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, and other internationally recognized bullion coins. Additionally, Rosland Capital sells bars in various sizes for those seeking to make larger investments in precious metals.
  2. Platinum and Palladium Investments
In addition to gold and silver, Rosland also facilitates investments in platinum and palladium. These rarer metals appeal to investors looking for further diversification within their precious metals portfolios.
  3. Precious Metals IRAs
A significant draw for many investors is Rosland’s expertise in setting up Precious Metals Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). A Gold IRA allows individuals to hold physical precious metals as part of their retirement savings, offering a hedge against market volatility and inflation. Rosland assists clients in setting up self-directed IRAs, helping them navigate IRS regulations and custodial requirements to ensure compliance.
  4. Buyback Program
Rosland Capital also offers a buyback program, enabling investors to liquidate their precious metals when they choose. This feature provides peace of mind for those who may want to sell their assets in the future. However, it’s essential to review the terms and conditions of this program, as buyback prices are subject to market conditions and company policies.
  5. Educational Resources
For investors who are new to the world of precious metals, Rosland Capital offers educational materials to help them understand the benefits and risks associated with these types of investments. Their website features articles, guides, and reports on topics ranging from the history of gold and silver to the specifics of investing in a Gold IRA.

Why Choose Rosland Capital?

Investors looking for a trustworthy partner in precious metals investments often seek companies with a solid track record, a broad selection of products, and excellent customer service. Here’s why Rosland Capital stands out:

  • Longstanding Reputation: Since its founding in 2008, Rosland has built a reputation for integrity and reliability. The company has a strong presence in the U.S. and the U.K., which speaks to its global appeal and credibility.
  • Variety of Products: Rosland Capital offers a wide range of precious metals, including gold, silver, platinum, and palladium coins and bars. This variety allows investors to diversify their portfolios beyond just gold and silver, tapping into the growth potential of lesser-known metals.
  • IRA Expertise: For those interested in Gold IRAs, Rosland’s team of experts helps simplify the process. They guide investors through every step, from setting up the account to ensuring compliance with IRS regulations, which can make the complex process of opening a Precious Metals IRA more manageable.
  • Educational Support: Whether you’re a seasoned investor or new to precious metals, Rosland Capital’s educational resources can be invaluable. Their website offers extensive materials that cover the fundamentals of precious metals investing, ensuring that you make informed decisions.

Customer Reviews and Reputation

No company review is complete without considering customer feedback. Rosland Capital has received both praise and criticism from its clientele, and understanding these experiences can help potential investors make more informed decisions.

Positive Feedback

Many customers appreciate Rosland Capital’s hands-on approach to customer service. Clients have praised the company’s representatives for their knowledge, attentiveness, and willingness to guide them through the complexities of investing in precious metals.

Moreover, the company’s ability to facilitate the creation of Precious Metals IRAs has been a major selling point for investors looking to protect their retirement savings. Clients have noted that Rosland’s team makes the process of setting up a self-directed IRA seamless, handling the bulk of the paperwork and providing clear guidance.

Areas of Criticism

While Rosland Capital has received positive feedback, there have been some areas of concern raised by customers. Some clients have expressed dissatisfaction with the pricing structure, noting that the premiums on coins and bars can be higher than those offered by competitors. Additionally, some customers reported challenges with the buyback program, citing lower-than-expected buyback prices.

As with any investment, it’s crucial for investors to do their homework and fully understand the fees and terms associated with their purchases before making a commitment.

Pricing and Fees

Rosland Capital does not publish its prices for precious metals directly on its website. This can make it difficult for investors to compare costs upfront. Instead, customers are encouraged to call and speak with a representative to get a detailed quote. While this personalized approach allows Rosland to offer tailored advice, it may not appeal to those looking for immediate transparency.

Regarding fees for Precious Metals IRAs, Rosland charges an initial setup fee, along with annual storage and maintenance fees for the metals held in the IRA. These fees vary depending on the size of the investment and the storage option chosen. Investors should carefully review the fee structure before committing to a Precious Metals IRA, as these costs can impact the overall returns of their investment.

Buyback Program and Liquidity

One of the key considerations for precious metals investors is liquidity — the ease with which an investment can be sold or converted to cash. Rosland Capital offers a buyback program, which allows clients to sell their metals back to the company at the prevailing market rate. While this provides a convenient option for liquidation, it’s important to note that buyback prices may be lower than the original purchase price, particularly after accounting for premiums and fees.

Investors should also be aware that the timing of selling precious metals can impact returns. Selling during periods of high market demand can result in better returns, while selling during downturns could lead to losses.

Storage Options

For those investing in physical precious metals through a Gold IRA, proper storage is a critical concern. Rosland Capital partners with depositories that offer secure, IRS-approved storage facilities. These facilities provide investors with peace of mind, knowing that their assets are stored in secure, climate-controlled environments. Investors can choose between segregated and non-segregated storage, depending on their preferences and needs.

While storing your metals at home might seem like an appealing option, it’s essential to understand that this could disqualify them from being held in a tax-advantaged IRA. Always consult with a Rosland Capital representative to determine the best storage solution for your investments.

Conclusion

Rosland Capital has carved out a strong position in the precious metals industry by offering a wide range of products, excellent IRA services, and personalized customer support. For investors seeking to diversify their portfolios with tangible assets like gold, silver, platinum, or palladium, Rosland provides a reliable option.

However, potential investors should be mindful of the company’s pricing structure, fees, and buyback policies. As with any investment, conducting thorough research and understanding the risks and benefits is essential before making any decisions. Overall, Rosland Capital is a solid choice for those serious about investing in precious metals, particularly through Precious Metals IRAs, which can offer valuable protection against inflation and market volatility.

If you’re considering precious metals as part of your investment strategy, Rosland Capital’s comprehensive offerings and expertise make it a dealer worth exploring.

Should You Allocate Capital To Gold?

Inflation was dormant for 40 years. Much as the Federal Reserve tried, especially after the financial crisis of 2008, it could not cause inflation.

The Federal Reserve could not even hit its goal of 2% annual inflation.

Well, that has all changed dramatically. The governments of the world have all gone crazy with the covid hysteria and the overreaction and money printing have gone off the rails. But the truth is, this is all just to cover up the fact that all the governments have been borrowing money (stealing) with no intention of ever paying it back.

To cover up their crimes, they have created shortages and inflation, and now they are on to creating was as a distraction.

Not to scare you, but this sounds bad, yes?

Well, there is some good news. Investors that can see all this nonsense that is going on are looking for insurance against the financial system, and they are finding that protection in the shiny yellow metal, gold.

All of these bad things that are currently going on are a catalyst for gold. Gold is rock solid (please excuse the pun). Investors turn to gold in times of uncertainty and in times of crisis. Well, guess what? Those times are here.

What about rising interest rates? That will hurt the price of gold right? Because that is what has always happened in the past, correct? No. Just look. In just two months, interest rates have gone from 3% to 5%. In just two months! A historic rise in interest rates in such a short amount of time.

This must-have caused the price of gold to collapse, or at least decline, right? Again no. The price of gold has remained mostly even and has even risen slightly, in the face of skyrocketing interest rates. This doesn’t make sense to most investors.

Don’t be like most investors. Realize that gold has been valued by humanity for at least 5,000 years. Gold has seen countless panics, depressions, wars, and inflations come and go. One of the many reasons why we value gold is because it is dependable.

In times of great crisis, people always turn to gold. And when this happens the price rises. We are in times of great uncertainty, so even when the interest rates rise at an unprecedented speed, gold remains unfazed. Because of this, nearly all investors need to have at least some of their portfolios allocated to gold and other precious metals. Many investors can see what is going on with the economy and have made a smart decision to move a 401k to gold without a penalty by opening up a gold IRA. Even if you just move a portion of your 401k to gold, you are still getting ahead of the investing crowd.

Let’s review some of the main factors that drive the price of gold.

A weakening currency will push the price of gold higher. Well, all global currencies are weakening. The United States government is doing everything it can to destroy the dollar. They are inventing new ways to print and devalue a currency. Whether this is all being done intentionally or the people making the decisions are bumbling idiots is unknown, and it does not matter. The fact is the abuse of the currencies means that the price of gold will go up.

Inflation and loss of confidence are also key drivers in the rising price of gold. It now takes two to three dollars to buy you what only took one dollar to push as recent as two years ago. That is wild inflation. The average working person is getting crushed by this loss of purchasing power. The reason inflation causes the price of gold to rise is because of fear. If investors don’t buy gold today at $2,000 an ounce, they will have to buy it next month at $2,400 an ounce.

The longer you wait, the more the price you will have to pay, and the less of the product you will get for your dollars. This also impacts investor confidence because they are scared of this. In normal peaceful times, prices don’t move this quickly. When confidence declines the price of gold rises because of FOMO (fear of missing out). Investors worry if they don’t buy today, they will have to pay a lot more soon. They are correct, and this pushes gold higher.

Capital flows, both domestic and internationally, have a huge impact on the price of gold. Capital flows are the main reason why the style of investing called Trend Following works so well. If money (capital) is flowing into an asset, that asset will rise in price. The asset is popular with a lot of investors, and investors are spending money to acquire the asset, then the price goes up. When Trend Following investors see a lot of capital going into an asset like gold, they buy gold too because they know that a rising tide lifts all boats.

The same is also true of capital flows and Trend Following in reverse. If most investors decide that they do not want the asset, then money will flow out of the asset as more and more investors sell the asset. This is unfortunate for you if you are looking to acquire gold at a cheap price point because this is not currently happening in the gold market. Capital flows internationally are going into gold and the price is rising in all currencies, which is the signal of a real bull market because all the governments around the world are all doing the same thing and all going insolvent.

Momentum breeds momentum, as the saying goes, and the momentum is going into gold.

A popular, but much less powerful reason for the price to rise is due to government central banks buying gold as reserves. Don’t believe the hype. It’s popular nonsense by gold promoters to say that a central bank that is in trouble, will buy gold to stay afloat. This just is not true. Central banks hate gold because they can’t just print more of it like they can their currency units. And a central bank will never allow its gold reserves to be audited by an independent third party. So don’t think that because a central bank is buying gold that the price will go up. That is mostly a myth.

Now, some people think that gold will not rally because of cryptocurrencies. Somehow crypto has everyone in a trance and they don’t think that gold works like it used to. Just take a step back and think for yourself. While we don’t hate crypto like many gold investors, we know that crypto is not gold. Gold still has value even if all the power goes out from a cyber attack. If the internet goes down, your crypto goes to zero. Gold has been around for at least 5,000 years and probably longer. It has never gone to zero. There is a place for both gold and crypto in a smart investor’s portfolio. But do not get caught up in the hype that gold has replaced crypto because it is simply not accurate.

Hopefully, we have convinced you that there are many solid, well-thought-out reasons for allocating a portion of your investment portfolio to gold. Some investors will want more exposure, some less, just make sure that you get off a zero allocation. Your retirement depends on it.

The Best SEO Books For Beginners & also Experts

First off, a bit of a contradiction here.

I don’t believe in reading books about search engine optimization, if you don’t know how to do SEO.  The best thing you can do is build your own websites and try to rank them.

Trial and error for SEO works best.

That is how I, your humble author, learned search engine optimization.  And it took me years and thousands of hours and I made a lot of mistakes and wasted a ton of money in the process.

One thing I tried to do is learn from people that were better than me at understanding algorithms.

And that helped a lot.

Since I’ve been able to rank many different websites, in many different niches in Google, I’ve come to the conclusion that the fundamentals of SEO hasn’t changed for at least 3-5 years.  In fact, the fundamentals have become more important.

And the fundamentals will become even more important in the future.

You’ve got to learn how to build a web page that a machine (googlebot) comes to and crawls, so that the machine can actually understand what they webpage is about.

The big thing you need to understand about SEO is that a machine can’t look at a page, or an image on a page, and understand or form an opinion about what the page is about.

You have to tell the machine specifically what the page is about.

And this important basic ideas is not going to change.

Because of these fundamental ideas aren’t going anywhere, I can now actually recommend books for someone to read on the topic of Learning SEO for a Beginner.

SEO Books I Recommend

I will only recommend 2 authors, because I know they are good and I’ve learned from both of them.

The first recommendation is from Ryan Stewart titled: The SEO Blueprint: How to Get More Organic Traffic Right Now

You should also follow Ryan on Twitter (I do).

Ryan’s active on social and I’ve learned a lot from his posts on Twitter and LinkedIn.

I’ve followed Ryan’s work for years now.  He consistently stays up to date with the latest methods and even pushes the envelope in some areas.

One of Ryan area of expertise is systems and processes.

If you do SEO for any amount of time, you’ll quickly learn there are huge time sucks in SEO.  What I mean by time suck is, little tedious tasks that will take up way too much of your time.

Ryan is one of the very best at creating systems to efficiently handle these important but tedious tasks.

Ryan is so good at creating systems that he sold his first search marketing agency, basically because the buyer wanted to acquire all this sales and fulfillment processes.

In his book The SEO Blueprint: How to Get More Organic Traffic Right Now, Ryan shows you how to do this and more.

I definitely recommend reading this book if you’re a beginner to SEO, but also if you’ve been at it and successful for a while with search.  Because darn near every SEO practitioner I know, needs to get better at creating systems so they can expand their business.

My second recommendation is by Bruce Clay: Search Engine Optimization All-in-One For Dummies.

Bruce Clay has been around from the beginning of SEO.  I found out about Bruce Clay from reading his blog.  Even if you don’t buy his book, you should definitely read his blog.

If you want to know the foundations of search engine optimization, Bruce is the guy to learn from.

You can follow Bruce Clay on Twitter if you want.  I don’t because it’s a boring company account.  You can still learn stuff, but the Bruce Clay Twitter account doesn’t use social media correctly, like a networking tool.

That account isn’t really “social”.  That’s why I recommend following Ryan Stewart on Twitter, but going to Bruce Clay’s website to read his blog.

If you’re looking for fancy tricks and techniques, you won’t find it in Bruce’s book Search Engine Optimization All-in-One For Dummies.

What you will find is how to build a proper web page and website that is easily found and understood by Google.  And this is why I recommend his book, because this information is not going to become obsolete in the next year, or the next Google update.

Bruce tells you how to build information on the internet in a foundational way, that will only become more important in the future.

And because this is part of the “For Dummies” franchise, it is written in an easy to understand, and easy to take action manner.

That’s it.  Those are my 2 recommendations.

I see a lot of other posts that compete with this one that recommend 10 or 15 different books on SEO that you need to read.

Definitely don’t read 10-15 SEO books if you’re a beginner.  It’s a complete waste of time.

That’s why I’m only recommending 2, and these are the 2 best know I know of and have gotten value from myself.

Thanks for reading!

Bad Advice: Be Careful Who You Listen To

Brendan Hufford recently tweeted this article from Y Combinator.

Y Combinator is a business or startup “incubator”.  Basically they act as a resource for new companies to get advice on how to grow there business.

Brendan points out in his tweet here a thread on Y Combinator’s forum.  And oh my goodness, this is horrible advice about search engine optimization.

Y Combinator might be great at helping people launch new businesses, but if this is an example of what they know about search, then just stay away or completely ignore.

The only thing this person go right was Ahrefs.

Ahrefs is a great and powerful tool.  It can tell you a lot.  But remember, it is a tool.  Everyone who uses a tool does not have the same skill level.

If I have a paint brush, I can paint a circle.  That’s cool I guess.  If Van Gogh has a paint brush, he can paint Starry Night and change the world.

Big difference in skill level.

I don’t even know what Xrumer/GSA are.  I know what a blog comments is.  Blog comments are perfectly fine, if used by a sane reasonable person.

But please, please, don’t spam a bunch of blog comments trying to rank your site.  Holy smokes, what the heck.

This is why search engine optimization is very hard and very easy.  I know, I’m contradicting myself, let me explain.

SEO is Very Hard

SEO is very hard because there’s a ton of info online about it and it’s almost all terrible.  Even if you were to find a good article, how would you know it’s a good article?

Especially when the good article is sandwiched between a ton of crap.

The best way to learn, get good at SEO is to build your own website that you can push and test and see what works.  If it doesn’t break, then it works.  Just do this on a website that you treat for testing purposes.

This learning process can take a long time.  Years even.

Or you can hire an SEO expert to do the job for you.  Again, this is hard, because most SEO Experts are not SEO experts.

SEO is Easy

Once you understand what a search engine is looking for and how to build a website with a strong foundation, you’ll realize SEO is easy.  Then, you go out and you see the competition.  Most people have no idea what they’re doing, so that’s the competition, and they are easy to beat.

Whatever you do, don’t do any of the stuff in that Y Combinator post.

Build your own website and figure out how to rank it.

If you like this post and are trying to learn SEO for a Beginner, read my post: The Best SEO Books For Beginners

MythBusting

Another SEO Myth gets busted.

Continuing on this idea of busting search engine optimization myths, in this post I’m tackling social signals as a factor to help rank in search engines.

This is complete nonsense.

First of all, I’m not even 100% sure what social signals are, but I think they are likes on Facebook and likes and retweets on Twitter and stuff like this.

This is utter nonsense.  It doesn’t help you rank a site.

There are many of this gigs or services on sites like Fiverr.  They are utterly useless.  The hold no value and can easily be accomplished with automated programs or bots.

They’re basically just spam.

I haven’t really see folks talk about social signals much since 2016 or 2017, but in case you’re wondering, they’re nonsense don’t waste your time with them.

Also, social media links don’t matter for ranking either.  They are all no-follow links and they don’t pass any relevance.  They are easy to get and that’s one of the reasons why they have little value.

Now, that’s not to say they can’t be useful.  If you have a significant audience on social media and you give out a link to your product or service, and you get a bunch of folks to buy from you, that’s great.

Social media links can be great for getting traffic to your site or your offer.  So they can definitely have value if used correctly.

But they don’t have value in pushing your website to the top of Google searches.

Common mistake

Here is an Unpopular Opinion: Your website doesn’t need to have a security certificate, HTTP(s), to rank well in Google.

HTTPS is a conversion issue. If you don’t have the S, web browsers like Google’s Chrome, will say “Not Secure” right next to your domain name, which is not good.

Customers want to see that trust symbol.

Now there is a common misconception in the SEO community, that if you don’t have SSL, your site will get demoted.  This idea is bolstered from popular articles on the topic like this one from Wired Magazine.

And if non-SSL sites get demoted, the having the SSL might give you a boost in Google rankings.

But the SSL certificate doesn’t help with ranking at the top of Google searches. There are plenty of sites with just HTTP ranking for competitive searches.

Sorry to burst your bubble.  It’s not that easy to rank at the top of Google.

Focus on what matters.

This being said, I do recommend getting the SSL certificate for you website.

Your website is simply the online version of your business. Your business needs to look good and customers need to feel safe.

This website has the HTTP(S), just look at the search bar.

But SSL little to nothing to do with ranking.

Basics Business Listing

GMB: Your Most Important Citation for Search Engine Optimization

Are you a new business owner that is looking to start developing your online presence to make it easier for customers to find you? This article will help you understand the importance of Google my business and how it can benefit your business. This will also be a step-by-step guide to help you launch your Google my business profile and set it up correctly to maximize its effectiveness.

So let’s get started!

Why is Google My Business Important?

Some business owners argue that having a Google my business page isn’t as important as everyone makes it out to be. So let us clarify the confusion and show you how it can benefit your business to see if you find it worth setting up.

The first thing is that Google My Business makes it easy for people to find your business. Whenever a customer searches for your brand name, you want that customer to find your business instead of one of your competitors. Just imagine if people were looking for your business and didn’t see your Google My Business page – how many customers would that be costing you?

Google My Business also gives people an easy way for people to call you, see your credibility from reviews and see the hours your business is open. All of these features make it incredibly easy for customers to find the information about your business that they are searching for. Also, since Google My Business is incredibly easy to set up – it makes sense to have it and enjoy all the benefits than not have it set up at all and miss out. So let’s dive into how to set up a Google My Business page if you are in the local services industry.

How To Set Up Google My Business

The first thing you need to do is choose a Gmail account that you would like to grant ownership access to for your Google My Business page. We recommend using your personal Gmail account but if you don’t have one, just create a brand new one. Once you have your Gmail account selected, it’s time to create your business page.

  1. Go to Google and search “Google My Business”.
  2. Click the first search result and sign into your Gmail account
  3. Click Add a new business listing

Once you get to this point you will need to verify that your business exists before you are able to start filling out your business information. This sounds difficult but it is really simple. Google will ask you for your business name and address. Once you provide Google with your business name and address, they will send you a post card with a code to your business address to validate that your business exists. All you need to do is type the code that you receive into your business page and that will verify that your business and address is real. The post card usually takes anywhere from one to three weeks to arrive so be patient!

Adding Business Information

Once you received you Google My Business code and have verified your account – it’s time to start setting up your business information. The first thing you should do is add your phone number and make sure that the address is listed correctly. Once this is complete you can start filling in the rest of the business information that includes:

  • Business hours
  • Services
  • Price ranges
  • Industry
  • Photos

Adding Business Photos

There are different type of business of photos you can add to your business page. However, there are also some photos that we suggest you not to add to your business page. The best type photos to add is the ones of what your actual business interior and exterior looks like. This make it convenient for customers to be able to recognize your business if they are trying to find you.

We suggest taking pictures of the inside of your office, the outside of your office, pictures of the team, pictures of work in action etc. This will make your business profile look great!

If you are a general contractor and don’t actually have people coming to your office because you provide a service for them at their home then you can also add pictures of past work that you’ve completed, your business logo, pictures of the team at work etc. Now we suggest to avoid adding pictures that are not directly related to your business specifically.

Too many businesses add stock photos to their business page that they’ve purchased from professional photographers. These types of photos may be beneficial for your website, but your Google My Business page should only have photos of your actual business. The reason for this is that Google frowns upon having stock photos on the Google My Business page and also it does not benefit your customers.

Your customers might be looking for something specific like what the front of your office looks like, the interior, past work and stock photos provide none of these benefits.

Google My Business Posts

Google My Business posts are one of Google’s newest features for business pages. This allows business owners to make a post or show a photo directly on their Google listing whenever their brand name is searched. This can be super beneficial if you have any special promotions going on that you want to make customers aware of. If you are a credible company with many people searching for your business online – just imagine being able to show your customers and potential clients a special promotion while they are searching for your business. You can use this feature to share reviews, promotions, any information posts, things that you’ve posted on social media, or whatever you like. Most people find this feature extremely effective.

So this concludes our step-by-step guide on how to set up your Google My Business profile. Our team believes that Google My Business pages are one of the best things a company can use to improve their search presence. We hope you were able to benefit from this and we wish you more success for your business!

Final Recap of Google SEO Manual Penalty – How It Got Removed. Sort of…

We’re Back!

EvolverIntensives.com is re-indexed in Google.

This means that you can find us in Google.  While we had the Manual Spam Penalty, you could not find this website in Google.  This means we were de-indexed.  That is the penalty.  Google kicks you off Google, so that no one can find your website on Google, which means you won’t get any visitors to your website from the largest, most heavily trafficked website in the world.

It’s not good to get a manual penalty from Google (especially if you’re a blog about SEO!).

This is the last update about the penalty.  On the last update, which you can read here: I Got a Manual Spam Penalty from Google REMOVED! But, I don’t know how, the Manual Penalty had been removed, but this website still wasn’t showing up in Google’s index.

If you don’t show up in Google, then it’s the same as having a penalty.  We’ll you can now Google “evolver intensives” or “evolverintensives.com” or “evolver intensives SEO tools” and you will see us!

This means we are fully back and healthy again.

If you’d like to read the first post (where I was panicking), you can read that here: https://www.evolverintensives.com/i-got-a-manual-spam-penalty-from-google-dont-know-how-to-fix/

I made a video explaining as much as I know and what I learned about the process that you can watch here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0C2qAwEpZDM

I hope that this new blog post gets indexed in Google!

I Got a Manual Spam Penalty from Google REMOVED! But, I don’t know how…

Hi there!  I’m happy to announce that I got the manual spam penalty from the big G removed.

Google Manual Spam Penalty Removed

But, I don’t know how.  Or, I don’t know why Google removed the penalty.  I also don’t know why I got the penalty in the first place.  I was hoping that this would be an educational set of 2-4 blog posts about what happens when you get a Manual Penalty and How To Remove a Manual Penalty.

Unfortunately, this is just a “here’s what the heck happened, but I have NO idea why it happened” set of posts.

I was thinking I’d be able to give you more helpful information that this, but, this is all I got for you.

What I did to fix the problem was I went on Google Webmaster Forums and asked someone to look at this website and tell me what the heck I did wrong.  Someone did.  But they didn’t tell me what I’d done wrong to get the Spam penalty in the first place and then the feedback they gave me was very vague.

What I was hoping to get from the Webmaster Forum was, “This is what you did wrong, here’s how to fix it.”

Well, I made a few minor changes that I didn’t think mattered much.  And I submitted a Reconsideration Request through my Google Search Console (a.k.a. Webmaster Tools).

Here’s what I can tell you: it took about 6-7 weeks to get a response and when I got the response, all I got was an email saying the Manual Spam Penalty has been Removed.  And that’s it.  No explanation.  So I have no  great insights to give you if this happens to your website.

While I’m stoked the Penalty was removed, as of the beginning of January 2019, this website is still not indexed in Google.  If the website won’t reindex, then as far as I’m concerned, it still has some sort of penalty on it.  But I don’t know, this might get fixed as well.

I’m going to go in to Search Console and ask Google to re-crawl the site and see what happens.

I’m glad that this is just a play site for me where I just blog about SEO stuff I like and not a website I depend on for a living income.  Anyway, if you have any insights on to what happened, please let me know in the YouTube comments!

Thanks.

I Got a Manual Spam Penalty From Google. Don’t Know How To Fix

This website recently received an Spam Penalty from Google.  Not Cool!

Here’s a screen shot of the email I got about the penalty:

Bad SEO

This is the email I got from Google.

I still have no idea why.  My best guess is that it has something to do with auto-transcription services from the videos I’ve made for this website.  Although that is just a guess.

I’ve never gotten any type of penalty from Google for any of my sites before, so this is all new to me.  And I don’t have any idea how to fix it.

The main problem is I don’t know how I got the penalty so I don’t know what to fix because I don’t know what’s causing it.

Kinda running blind here.

Since this is an SEO blog, this is embarrassing!

SEO stands for search engine optimization.  Google is the worlds biggest, most used search engine.  Currently this website is not indexed in Google, meaning it can’t be found in Google.

So… this is the opposite of search engine optimization.  Embarrassing. And this is my fault.

IF I can figure out what I did wrong, and get my site back and obviously indexed in Google, then I’ll do another video and post about it, so that you won’t make the same mistake I did.

But, I think that’s a low probability event.  Although I really have no idea.  I don’t know what I did wrong.  So I don’t know how to fix it.  And I don’t know how easy or difficult it is to get a “reconsideration request” from Google.

I put a lot of time effort and resources (note the good hosting and even SSL!) into this site.  It was going to be a long term side project for me.  So I don’t want to lose this site.

Anyway, I’ll keep you posted if I fix this.  And since I think using transcription services on my video, then posting the transcription on this site may have gotten me the penalty, no more transcriptions.  You can watch the video I made about the penalty here:

What Is a Good Way To Get SEO Traffic To Your Website?

Transcript of the video:

Hi there, and thanks for checking this video out. It’s another video about SEO Q&A.

TODAY’S QUESTION:

And today’s question is:

what is a good source to get traffic to your website?

Now this is a really great question because there is so many different ways to do it.

What search engine optimization is based off of is free traffic on the internet from search engines like Google.

If you’re a Dallas dentist, that person is gonna get traffic. These guys, these guys, these guys, (the first three business listings in Google Maps) they’ll probably get traffic. Or they will get decent traffic for people looking for dentists in the Dallas area.

The lower you go, the less traffic you get.

And then of course you go to page two, three. You get back to three and four, no one is gonna see you. Not many people see you on page two, but a couple folks do. That’s one way, you could get it (traffic/visitors) through search engines.

But if you’re a local business, if you’re a local dentist, I highly recommend becoming a member of your local chamber of commerce. If you get listed on the chamber of commerce website, then folks who are other chamber members might see you. And let’s see if we can go to that member directory.

Anyway, so folks could be on here, and they can see you, and they could click on your website through here. See, the member directory. You could get traffic there, see. Oh, I want to talk to somebody in real estate, they could find you through there. That’s a good way, your chamber.

Marketing That Works for Your Business

And it kind of depends on your strengths. One of the things I can do is I’m in local networking works, and on … Sorry, about my phone. And on chambers of commerce. In my local networking groups, I might offer them a free SEO evaluation, or audit, and give them a link to my website, and people might take me up on that. You could get traffic that way, and that’s just word of mouth in a networking group.

You can get traffic all over the place, you just got to get creative.

On the internet, I mean, it kind of depends on what you’re good at. You can get traffic off of Quora. This question came from Quora. You could go on Quora, and if you provide really good questions, you can maybe get people to click on the link to your website. Or you could get traffic obviously off of YouTube, Vimeo. You can get traffic off of social media of course. It kind of depends on what you’re good at.

Another one, another good one is forums.

If I’m a dentist, and I go to dental forums, yeah. I could hook up with one of these forums, Dentaltown, that’s a big one. And I could go on Dentaltown, and I could post questions, and I could answer … Especially, answering like really good … Putting out really good answers, and then you kind of get known on a forum, and then people will click to your website, or they ask you more questions. It’s kind of like a more niched out version of Quora. There is a whole bunch of different ways that you can get traffic on the internet.

Ads in the Mail Still Work

You can also do it through doing a direct mailer in like a local neighborhood, if you’re a local business, and you can send them an offer on your website. There are so many different things that you can do to get traffic to your website.

But this is what won’t work, if you just sit back and hope it’s gonna happen.

Get out there, try a bunch of different things, answer questions on forums. Post in different social medias, try and drive traffic through your local businesses, and through speaking events, and see what works. But there is a lot of different ways. It’s marketing. How can you market your business? Get your name out there, and try it because you’re not gonna know what works unless you try.

I hope you found this helpful. And as always if you have any questions, just let me know, and I’ll do my best to answer.

Should SEO be Your Main Marketing Strategy?

https://youtu.be/bNFqhZyyNp0

Here is a transcript from the video:

Hey guys, I’m the SEOBizBuilder and today I’m going to do something a little different, I’m going to do a video answer of a question that I got.

Now I answer SEO and digital marketing questions on Google on Quora on Twitter and on a bunch of different places on the internet. I really like this question and I wanted to go in depth on this answer.

This one came through on Quora.com it says, “Should SEO be my primary online marketing channel?”

So obviously I’m biased I build websites and businesses based on free traffic from the internet and Google. Just want to be clear about where my biases are.

Going into that should it (SEO) be your primary marketing channel marketing strategy?

Here’s The Answer:

It depends.

It’s like everything in SEO. It depends.

So I know people and myself included that have built, well people who have built a lot bigger businesses than I have, and all they use is SEO.

All they’re using is free traffic from Google and also other sites on the internet, but they do it just with SEO or search engine optimization. Of course, I have met great copywriters, direct response copywriters and I have met folks that are great at paid marketing, and they won’t even touch SEO.

They based their entire business on a different form of marketing and that’s cool too. And then there’s some SEO’s who got really good at SEO and then they also build on top of that paid marketing, and YouTube marketing, which is paid marketing, and content marketing, and all sorts of other stuff.

So it depends on what you’re good at. And what you want to do, really you want to figure out what your strengths are, so is it your primary one.

It should be your primary marketing source it just depends. For me it is search engine optimization.

How I got into SEO

I got to tell you a quick little story how I got into search engine optimization. I wanted to write direct response ads, like those mailers you get, or a headline that gets you to open up an email, or submit your email to get a free case study or whatever.

That’s direct response advertising. I wanted to do that but I couldn’t find anyone to hire me to do that because I had no experience. So I had a pressure washer and it was like well heck I’ll just start writing mailers out and getting see if I can get people to hire me to do the pressure washing.

I didn’t know anything about pressure washing but that’s exactly what I did. I read books like these, The Ultimate Sales Letter, shout out to Dan Kennedy. He’s a direct response guy marketing guru.

So I built a business on doing mailers and I didn’t like that business because I don’t didn’t like pressure washing but I did like the marketing aspect of it. And I was looking on ways to improve the marketing of that and that’s when I learned search engine optimization and I realized, oh I’ll just build a website for pressure washing in the town I was living in at the time.

And then I would get calls in day and night and I wouldn’t have to send out mailers all the time which cost a bunch of money.

And so that worked great for me and I transitioned over to SEO and I got goodat SEO and I built a marketing company and that’s what I do for local businesses.

I help them and I work on their websites and get them to the top of Google get them more customers but now I’m also transitioning back to learning and trying to get better at copywriting once again. To stack that on top of search engine optimization because if I can get a website and get all that traffic now I want to get better at converting that traffic.

Go with Your Strengths

So it just depends. If you’re really good at conversion, you need traffic. If you’re really good at traffic it’ll help you if you’re if you know a little bit of conversion. So, the question is should, SEO be my main marketing channel? The answer is, it depends. It is for me but I say go with what you’re good at.

All right, let me know what you think of this format if you guys have questions just let me know let me know in the comments.

Maybe I’ll make another video if I get another good question. All right. Thanks a lot.

12 Ways SEO Can Help Your Business Succeed

https://www.instagram.com/p/BlYWnYwlRZj/?hl=en&tagged=seo

Search engine optimization, or SEO for short, is one of the most effective marketing tools available for any business, no matter how big or small. Without SEO, your business is at a disadvantage and employing just some of the top techniques can help your business succeed in many different ways:

1. Search Engine Results Page

When looking for products, services, information or a business online, most people do not scroll down a search engine results page, never mind going to the next page. If your website does not appear among the top rankings, you are less likely to attract more visitors. The more traffic you can generate, the more likely your business is to succeed. The primary goal of SEO is to improve a search engine ranking.

2. Compete With Big Business

Small businesses can gain the same benefits from SEO as big corporations meaning that it evens out the playing field allowing small business to compete and often beat big business in the search engine ranking game. By using an integrated digital marketing strategy and employing all the SEO tools in their arsenal correctly, it is entirely possible for a small business to be ranked higher and therefore attract more traffic and business than their largest competitor.

3. Direct Competition

Often it is not big business that is in direct competition with your business, and it is other local businesses offering the same products or services that provide the most significant threat. Focusing an SEO strategy on taking into account your location and direct competition, will help you compete better on a local level. You can be sure that your greatest regional competition is using SEO to attract more business their way.

4. Build Your Brand

The goal of any great marketing strategy is to build an maintain a strong brand. SEO focuses on providing messaging and other techniques that will help make your brand. Also, SEO can assist in maintaining a strong brand presence once it has been established.

5. First Impressions

First impressions count, and a high search engine ranking plus a quality SEO website can provide a positive first impression. People automatically assume that a top-ranked website provides reliable information and is reputable. This impression is essential to internet users not only visiting your site, but their potential for buying your products or using your services is increased.

6. The Bottom Line

Any marketing strategy must result in increased website visitors and customers for a business. SEO can show real results in increased traffic to a website and how this traffic is directly translated into increased profits. It should go without saying that any strategy that increases profits is of value to the bottom line of every business.

7. The Cost

SEO is considered to provide the highest return on investment (ROI) of any marketing strategy. This means that the value it provides far outweighs the cost of employing the different types of SEO techniques. It is the cheapest strategy available – making it even more accessible to small businesses to compete with big business. In fact, some SEO techniques can be employed by you, meaning that the cost to the company is zero while the value continues to increase.

8. Long-Term Results

SEO is not about quick results and gaining profitability for a short period. Instead, it is about building an online reputation that is solid from the foundation up and ensuring that the benefits are sustainable over the long term. While this does mean that SEO can take time to show results, it also means that a strong online presence can be maintained once it has been established. SEO is, therefore, an ongoing digital marketing solution rather than a quickie strategy.

9. The Mobile Market

The latest research shows that more internet users are now using mobile devices to access the internet than conventional laptops or PCs. SEO provides a focused approach to optimizing websites for this mobile market. From the more traditional techniques like a content generation to ensure that a site is mobile friendly, SEO is the top tool in your kit to provide that mobile device users do not overlook your business.

10. Enhanced Online Visibility

Establishing a strong online presence is at the heart of online business success. SEO uses a variety of different strategies to improve online visibility including social media management, link building as well as search engine ranking.

11. Tailor-made

Every business is different and therefore has different marketing and SEO needs. An expert SEO consultant or agency considers this and can design a tailor-made package to suit the unique needs of your business while ensuring a comprehensive digital marketing solution.

When researching who to turn to for help with Google, it’s best to find a company, that can actually deliver on the results they are offering.  Ask for referrals from friends and family members to see if they have worked with any agencies that can deliver results.

12. Evolve And Adapt

A few years ago, a rumor was doing the rounds that SEO was on its way out and will no longer provide benefit to business success due to the ever-changing search engine algorithms making the industry much more challenging. However, SEO has evolved and adapted its techniques as required to ensure that their clients keep receiving the advantages of SEO.

Today, SEO is stronger than ever, and the benefits that it can provide to help your business succeed are more significant than before. In fact, it seems as though search is here to stay for the long term to continue providing the same advantages to small, medium and big business.

Search Engine Optimization Techniques to Improve Traffic

You’ve got a fabulous new website, you’ve spent time and care getting it just right, now all you need are people to see it. It’s time to implement some effective search engine optimization techniques to help drive in some targeted traffic. We have put together a few popular methods to help you achieve this.

Research your Keywords

There are tons of ways to blindly get traffic to your site, there are plenty of blackhat methods and services that can automate this. However, this will rarely lead to success and is useless if you want targeted visitors with an interest in what your website is offering. This is where keywords become an important factor in search engine optimization techniques. To gain a top position within search rankings, you need to apply the right keywords. Your keywords should be descriptive and should quickly inform the readers of what your website content is about, and obviously should be related to your website. Try to use keywords which have a fairly large volume of searches but less competition also uses long tail keywords, the Google keyword tool will aid you in this.

Write Articles

The main reason that people use the Internet, is to source information. A great way to present this information is in the form of articles. Which leaves articles as a powerful and search engine optimization techniques to get traffic to your website. You’re probably rolling your eyes right now, thinking I can’t write an article or I don’t have the time. The truth is, it’s not that difficult and you can pace yourself by writing one article per week. There are also plenty of writers out there that will be willing to write your articles for you for a reasonable fee. I would certainly be worth the effort as original, engaging articles is one of the best ways to get targeted traffic to your site.

Join Relevant Forums

Another way to gain more traffic is to join forums. There are literally thousands of forums out there and there should be no problems finding a forum within your niche market. Just type ‘your keyword’ and ‘forum’ into Google, join up and become part of their community. Use your forum signature to add a link to your website and become as active as possible, the more posts you make the more links to your site you get. Also, the more active you become the more likely fellow forum members will want to visit your website.

Release a Press Release

Releasing a Press Release can boost traffic. It gets the word out to media sources about your website or services and can often result in good traffic. The key here is to update regularly. If you are consistently updating your website, release press releases monthly.

PPC Advertising

PPC: Pay per click advertising, the most common being Google Adwords. In a nutshell, you bid for your ad to be shown on Google by selecting keywords and an amount that you are willing to pay if someone clicks on your advert if someone searches for your keyword your ad will be shown in the sponsored listings section of Google’s search results page. Although it is paid to advertise, it does provide highly targeted traffic.

Offer Something for Free

We all love getting something for nothing! Very effective search engine optimization techniques to bring in traffic are to offer something for free. This could be an ebook, free service, free graphics or a nifty little application. Once you’ve got something to offer, let everyone know. Post on forums, bookmark your site with websites such as Digg. If its good, you’ll have people flooding to your site.

Comment on Blogs

Comment on other peoples blogs. Be careful here though, as you don’t want to seem like a spammer and just have the comment deleted. Read the post, if you an opinion comment, just remember to include your website link. Try to search for blogs that have a page rank and that are relevant to your blog. You will get backlinks and hopefully some good traffic with it.

Provide Good Content

The last and also very important is content. Content is a king, if your website has lots of good articles that are useful, unique and interesting and informative and most importantly regularly updated, your visitors will love it and will not only regularly return to your website but possibly even promote it too.
