NEW YORK -- Due to what was termed "extensive demand" for tickets through the various multi-game plans the Mets offer, the club has launched an online drawing for the remaining available tickets for the opening home game and the three games at Shea Stadium against the Yankees.

The random drawing is the lone means by which single-game tickets for the April 9 games against the Phillies and the May 18-20 games against the Yankees are available.

The Mets have implemented this program -- similar to what they used for postseason tickets last year -- "to provide fans a fair and convenient way" to purchase single-game tickets from what club executive vice-president David Howard called an "extremely limited inventory," as few as 5,000 to 6,000 per date.

Howard explained Monday that the sharply decreased inventory is a result of an overwhelming increase in the demand for season tickets, ticket plans and seven packs, which also offer tickets for Opening Day and the Subway Series. Advance sales for the 2007 season have exceeded 1.6 million tickets and are 50 percent ahead of the rate established last year.

Fans may register, beginning immediately on Mets.com or LosMets.com, to become eligible for the random drawing. A limit of six tickets per entry exists -- that's six for all four games combined, so if a person purchases two tickets for the opening home game, only four more tickets would be available for the Yankees games. If one purchases six tickets for one date against the Yankees, no other tickets would be available to that buyer.

No fee or purchase is necessary to register. Each person is limited to one entry. In the case of multiple entries by the same individual, one entry will be honored. No assurance exists that any particular registrant will be selected. Opportunities to purchase tickets are non-transferable.

A limited number of fans will be selected in a random drawing and will be notified via e-mail by Thursday, Feb. 22, with instructions regarding the online purchase. Ticket prices start at $25 each and must be purchased with a major credit card. MasterCard is the preferred choice of the Mets. Per ticket and per order fees apply.

Nearly 1 million fans registered for the random online drawing for 2006 Mets postseason tickets.

Season tickets, plans and seven packs featuring Opening Day and Subway Series tickets are on sale now at Mets.com and LosMets.com. Single-game tickets for the remainder of the 2007 regular season will go on sale Sunday, March 11.

Call the Mets ticket office at 718-507-TIXX if Internet access is not available to you.
